News | Major ZF safety recall

ZF North America, which supplied nine-speed automatics to Fiat Chrysler (FCA), Honda, and Land Rover, said that they had made at least a half million sensors which can push their nine-speed transmissions shift into neutral without warning.

FCA has a recall out on them...Honda and Land Rover?..Crickets chirping so far. They haven't moved on them yet.

I wonder if LR's are part of the half million in question? Surely they are.

So that explains why gear transitions are jerky, unresponsive, etc. I can't wait to get the official recall letter. Yeah, baby!

This may be the same engine that killed the actor Anton Yelchin (from his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee as it rolled back and crushed him). Lawsuit from his parents is still pending.

Excerpt from http://variety.com/2016/film/news/jeep-recall-anton-yelchin-1201828785/ :

A recall notice for a Jeep Grand Cherokee was mailed to actor Anton Yelchin seven days after he was killed in a freak roll away accident, his family’s attorney said Tuesday.
Yelchin’s parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit Tuesday against the vehicle’s manufacturer, Fiat Chrysler, as well as ZF North America, which manufactured the gear shift. Fiat Chrysler recalled more than 800,000 vehicles in April, after receiving hundreds of rollaway complaints.

“The safety recall was way too little and way too late,” attorney Gary Dordick said at a press conference in Beverly Hills. “They should have never used this device.”

It's not an engine prob...it's the transmission. Yelchins Jeep had the unconventional shifter that was giving some people fits. Still not the same issue as our potential issues.

Funny they come down on a shift lever but have yet to really scrutinize "auto piloted" cars. It's coming though. But that's for another thread.

After reading the other thread, I'm glad to see some movement on the issue.
