Window Global Open/Close & Red/Black Car Icon

ust bought an HSE Lux on Monday. I've been investigating all the options and ran across window global open and window global close. I turned both on (I'm in the US, by the way). Window global open works fine. If I hold the open button on the remote for 3 seconds, all windows open. However, global close doesn't seem to work. This seems to me to be the better feature in case someone forgets to close a window when existing the car. I think maybe it's turned off in the US. If so, then maybe it shouldn't be an option on the menu. Anyone know for sure? I've asked dealer, but haven't gotten a reply yet (and while I had a good experience at the dealer, they are still learning about the car as well, and I didn't get the InControl Protect App(?) like I thought even though the sales guide discussed it because he confused this with the InControl Apps (the one that lets you connect your phone through USB and run apps on the touch screen of the car)). If it is turned off in the US, anyone know how to hack it to turn it on? ;-)

Also, sometimes when I'm driving, I see a white rectangle in the center dash display above the speed limit sign that shows little red & black cars. Dealer thought that maybe this was exceeding the speed limit, but I don't think so because I do that way too often and don't see the icon. Anyboyd know what it is? I can't even upload an image of it because I can't get it to repeat on demand and I couldn't find an image of it online.

Thanks!

I haven't messed with the global open and close yet but I'll try and see what happens.

The little white rectangle with the red and black cars means you are in a no passing zone.

If you are over 5 miles an hour over the speed limit there will be a red flashing ring around the speed limit sign.

In control apps and remote and protect are sold separately. If you have remote and protect it will be listed in your optional features on your window sticker. You would then download in control apps and remote app separately.
Nothing nerves me worse than a dealer of a premium vehicle like these not knowing their product. It's not like they have several lines and several models to sell. Land Rover/Range Rover is a fairly narrow line of product and they should know their product.

Fantastic! Thanks for the info.

My window sticker does not mention the remote & protect. It's too bad. I would have much rather have paid for remote & protect that incontrol apps. I really don't need my phone's calendar to display on my car's display screen. I'd rather be able to know whether the car is locked or not remotely. I understand it's a factory add so it can't be retrofitted. That's too bad.

Anyway, thanks again for info. Knowing the icon means no passing is helpful. And I'll have to keep an eye out on the speed limit sign to see if it turns red if I go five over.

I set nav to warn me if I'm 8 over because I often go at least 7 over and using something lower caused the warning to come on way too much when I was using nav.
You're welcome. It's kind of a shame that the incontrol stuff are all factory adds that can't be added later. Incontrol remote is pretty neat and it's got the gee whiz factor. It's got a few things that the uConnect mobile app, for my RAM, doesn't have. And visa versa. I blew through my free trial on uConnect mobile and never bothered to pay for the service....it's not THAT cool and can be lived without. But for people who want to take full advantage of tech, the incontrol protect may be worth paying for after the Intial service period is over....but 4 years is a long time for a vehicle to stay in my family. Lol

I've really only scratched the surface with remote & protect so far.

The incontrol apps feature will surely get better as more apps are added. Right now it's actually pretty useful to check my calendar. I do sync my phone to my outlook calandar and I've actually used it a few times in the in control app interface.

But if you want to play music from your phone, I don't know about you, but I think It's cumbersom and not nearly as seamless as they try to advertise. I skip it and just play music through Bluetooth or cable.

As for the global windows.... Both options for up and down are checked in the vehicle menu. Global down works like a charm, global up doesn't work. The manual only talks about global down, nothing in there about up.

So anyone else having any luck? Or is it another knit pic to gripe to LR about? LOL!!

There is almost no information anywhere about the remote and protect. Too bad that they don't have an online video like they do for the incontrol app.

This seems like it could be incredibly annoying. I'd hope there is a way to disable the red flashing ring?

Yea, I think BT is better for the music. I did reply to some texts at a stop light thru the car. That's pretty neat.

Haven't found a way to use global close yet. It's surely a tease to include it in the options and it doesn't work (and I have read elsewhere that it may be blocked in the US). I'm hoping someone figures out hot to hack it. It's probably just a switch somewhere in a control panel (I hope it's not a software hack or that'll be a problem).

Protect does have the gee whiz factor, but like many things, over time it's not so great. I had Audi connect for a while on my Q5 and didn't continue the data charges after the initial six month free period. It's like satellite radio, which is getting too much like FM. I'd rather play music through my Google Play subscription (and we have Amazon Prime, so I can play it from there as well (and I should drop Google Play since we're paying twice for the same music)).

There is an iPad app that demoes the entire incontrol system. It's not bad. It's got videos that go over remote/protect. I downloaded it and went through it before I bought the Disco.

I thought the same thing. It's actually not annoying at all. Just a very subtle reminder. I do believe you can disable it but you have to disable the whole drivers aid system.... I think.

I also thought the lane departure feature would be annoying. It's not. All these features are very subtle and actually quite thoughtful imho. They struck a nice balance.

I called the dealership today. My sales person said that I should be able to press the lock button for 4 secs to trigger global up. I told her that it still doesn't work. She asked the service techs but they said no "known issues" of course it could be a glitch and it's so new that not a lot of people have tried it yet or reported it yet...or, like mentioned, it could be disabled in the U.S. Why? I have no idea....

Anyway, I've now got a "case open". I oughtta know something soon enough.

As far as remote/protect is concerned...it's good for 4 years so I'm gonna see what I can do with it for the duration.

I agree about sat radio...I use it sparingly till the subscription is up then forget about it. With streaming and digital music, there's no need to pay for sat radio. The other programming on sat radio is not that compelling to me either....

Can you at least adjust it so instead of blinking when you are 5 over it blinks only when you are 10+ over for example?

I mean...I live in Nebraska and if I have to drive west on the Interstate where it's very desolate I typically set the cruise at 9 over the speed limit. Having a red blinking reminder that I'm going over the speed limit for 5 hours straight seems like it would be terribly annoying.

Well I'm glad you asked.
Fortunately,Yes! I went out and looked through the menu. It's speed adjustable for right at the limit, 5 over and 10 over. You can also turn the speed alert portion completely off individually from the rest of the driver assist features. (Which I was unsure of earlier) that's a big plus for those who can't ignore it.
However, Have you seen the feature yet? It's NOT overly distracting.... Unless one is OCD. ? honestly I forget about it most of the time. But it has caught my attention when going a little too fast through construction zones and potentially saved me a ticket. Really, if you have not test driven one with this feature turned on, you need to. It's not that big of a deal. but at least it's adjustable and can be turned off without disabling the other driver assist features. Pretty **** cool. ?

My speed limit wasn't flashing red so I investigated and discovered the settings. One of the few I guess I missed playing with the car. I set it for 5 mph for now. I try to keep my speed between 5 and 10 over the limit. Taking a road trip today, so we'll see how it goes.

One thing we haven't mentioned yet that I find fun is the 360 degree view of the car while driving. I think that's really neat. You can use it with the front camera on as well and almost watch the touchscreen instead of the road (OK, not really recommended, but it's neat to check out for a while). I get to "see" just how close I come to a curb during a turn, for example. ;-)

I'm almost done perusing/reading the manual. Between that and y'all, I think I will have figured it all out!

Thanks.
Heck yea. The camera views on this thing are amazing. We use them all the time. The resolution is the best I've ever encountered to date.

We also have the adaptive headlights, another great and appreciated feature.

Awesome, thanks! It's good that it's adjustable. I haven't driven one yet, much less seen one in person.

One of the best features ever is the adaptive headlights and the auto hi-beam. In Nebraska there are so many deer out there that you want to run with the hi-beams on but some times forget to turn them off for oncoming traffic. great feature that I had on my LR4. Auto leveling is really nice too.

Hi Disco Disco,

Have you tried to reset your windows yourself? This used to work on my Discovery 4 (LR4) so it may work with the DS.

You have to do the reset sequence (fully open - close the window and hold the button up for more than 3 secs) on each window in turn - i.e. all 4 !!! Then everything should be reset fine.

Its worth a go to see if it sorts it out.

D ;)

I'll give it a try. Couldnt hurt.

My dealership has not cleared it up. I feel like Im getting blown off. I told my salesperson to go get a set of keys and try it on one that they have in stock to see if they can get it to work...is it THAT freakin hard? LOL >:D

I'll try to remember to try the reset sequence as well. If you get it to work, let us know! Thx.
