Very occasional gear shift problem

I love my 2016 Discovery Sport, but it has one, serious problem. When starting from a complete stop, it very occasionally (like every 4-5 MONTHS) will not shift out of low gear. It resolves itself if I come to a complete stop and start up again, but this is not a good thing to do when trying to get on the freeway. Dealer said it didn’t occur when they drove it, so they can’t fix it. I’m barely driving during this pandemic but today it happened again, about 7k miles since the last incident. If it’s the software, surely someone else has run into this problem.

Hey NedStark! Ya know, I have had my 2016 HSE for just over a year and that same thing has happened twice.Littely like 6 months apart. It just happened again the other day, Both times on the freeway going fast. The other day I was going like 80 MPH on the freeway, and I went to pass someone, stepped on the gas, and it felt like it bogged down and I was just coasting for a few seconds. then it kicked in. Very strange behavior. I did have an oil leak a few months ago, and it turned out it was the timing cover thing, but then that led to them doing some other work and replacing the whole PTU unit. Power Transfer Unit .They gave me a whole new one for free, because their seal on the timing cover failed. Maybe its related to the PTU? Anyone else?
Brian Press, I took my car to a different LR dealer and this time I was able to discuss my problem with a service person rather than the receptionist. After asking me a few questions he thought I may have inadvertently touched the little paddles on the steering wheel. They are labeled “-“ and “+” and allow the driver to shift gears manually. Who knew?! He disabled this feature for me and I’m confident the problem is solved. Now to find myself an owners’ manual 😄.
Ned if you use the paddle shifters the gear selected ....will show up on the screen. You can only disconnect paddle shifters in drive mode, they stay active in sport mode. Go into your setup menu and look around, you will find the setting in there.

My discovery sport has done this at least 4 times under 12000 miles, they tell me they have never heard of this. Mine is a fully loaded 2019 and the surround mirrors don’t work , dealership disabled this feature calling it fixed. The engine sounds rough lately and seems to run hot and louder than usual?
