Towing?

Have any owners tried towing much with their disco yet? I'm interested to know if it can handle a trailer loaded up with a few motorcycles.

Perfect, thanks. Sounds encouraging!
I was going to point to that guys post as well. We are thinking about buying the same trailer. He sent me a PM that said the DS handled that trailer great. He's towed with it more than a few times.

Plus, there are people in the UK towing their trailers with the DS with no problem.

But in the UK, they mostly drive the 2.2L diesel engine which has more torque.

In comparison, I have had 2 SUV - BMW X5 diesel and Honda Pilot 6 cylinder gasoline.

The diesel can tow up to 6500 pounds while the Honda can barely tow 2000 pounds with 10% on the tongue....

Glad I traded in the Honda and got the Discovery - at least the 4 cylinders can tow more than the Honda.;)

AH HA! True true!

But in this case he did tow a 3000+lbs trailer and he told me that it's had no sway problems and the engine handled it with no problems at all. :)
Boat Launching

Has anyone experience of pulling sports boats up a launching ramp? How does the transmission cope
ive launched many heavy wakeboard boats (some much over the capacity) it has no problems on the ramp at all
Has anyone installed the OEM tow package themselves? I installed them on both my '04 Freelander and '08 LR2 previously with no trouble. i used thr Topix page for reference and I'm hand already, so I was wondering if anyone had trouble I have a 2016 DS HSE 5-seat here in the US. Thanks!
Letting this thread know that I made a new thread in the Tech Section forum under Body and Appearance titled "I installed the OEM tow package myself today (guide w pics)" that shows my experience in installed the OEM hitch myself. Check it out.
Achilles heel of the DS when towing is the max tow ball weight. Its significantly lower for the 7 seater. Make sure you check it out.

I have the TD4 180 Diesel Ingenium.

Towing a 1.4T (metric) Patriot X1 camper trailer, I hardly notice its there. With the electric brake controller correctly balanced, stopping is no worse than without, and the only real difference is acceleration is a bit less, and I top out on power going up significant hills at 110KM/hr+.

I actually find its more responsive with the trailer, as a Diesel DS sits in the turbo power-band more often when loaded up a bit, so there's never any lag.

I use about 12L/100KM of diesel when towing it, vs say 7.6 without.

We regulary tow our camper trailer and have found the DS to be a very good tow vehicle. We average around 10 l/100km with the trailer. Our DS is a 2017 HSE TD4 180. We generally do highway trips of between 500km and 1000km.

Towing with a 16 Discovery Sport

I am towing a very small Lance 1475 trailer. Top weight of loaded trailer is about 4,100 pounds. My car is supposed to pull 4,400 pounds. Never had a problem pulling this trailer. I do have a weight distribution hitch and sway bars.

Should be no problem towing a trailer with motorcycles.
Has anyone with the dynamic bumper pack installed a hitch yet? Do you know if they had to cut any of the panels for the assembly to fit right?

We have had a similar experience. It tows well. What sort of weight do you have on the tow ball for your set up ? Steve
Hi there, read a post from 2018, and it mentioned the discovery’s come with the towing wiring harness from the factory .. I don’t know if my 2016 disco sport has that as I can’t see that under the backend. Any advice on where to see if I do have it?

getting a hitch installed this week and don’t want to get charges for wiring harness if I have it already.

thanks In advance and know this is an old thread
I'm a little late to this, but the wiring is wired through the vehicle, BUT you still need the towing electronics package that plugs into that wiring, AND you'll need a brake controller to plug in under the dash. The name of the Towbar Electrics instructions is "DS Tow Electrics Fitting Instructions VPLCT0183". Where you plug the electrics kit is just inside the rear boot behind that spare tire insulation:
White Automotive exterior Line Motor vehicle Parallel

I hope that helps a bit.
