My new car that I just picked up mid January has been been rattling on both B pillars. Service acknowledged the problem immediately and said Land Rover is aware of the problem and there is a fix. The fix involves welding. The fix can only be done at a body shop. The body shop here estimates 7-10 to get it fixed.

So this is a real problem. Check if your Discovery for this problem and if you have this problem, you can bring it in to Land Rover to get it fixed.

I got an Evoque as a loaner and in my opinion, it doesn't come close to the comfort of the Discovery. The Discovery has much more room inside. The Evoque feels a little quicker on the start and I"m pretty sure that is because its a lighter car.

Mine has been at the shop since last Thurs for this same thing (so I'm on day 8). I also got an Evoque for a loaner and it makes me appreciate my DS that much more. Sad that we have to deal with this on a brand new car that's now been manufactured for a year, but the service reps have truly been fantastic and I'm hopeful all is well after this.

One concern I have is on the safety of the car, given that the welds joining the body to roof are set in very precise ways in the design of the vehicle to distribute load in an impact.

The B Pillar fix is real! I just wanted to give an update... so I got the car back after 7 working days and there is no more rattles in both B pillars. The car has been put together well and everything is good. If your car has the rattle, rest assure it can be fixed. :)

Thought I should chime in. I also had rattling in the driver side B pillar a few months ago. They also applied the fix which was to re-weld all the weld spots on the front top roof area and above the b pillar. The noise did go away for a few weeks then it came back slowly at first. It wasn't as loud as before but then it got a bit louder and more frequent. So I brought it in for service again. This time, it's been 2 weeks and counting at the dealership. Everytime, they thought they fixed it. I went in for a test drive with one of their techs. And both times, the techs heard the noise again. I hope others are having better luck than me. It's been pretty frustrating having picked up the car in early Dec and the car has been in the shop for a total of 4+ weeks. It's only been 3 months since I've had it. Ugh!

You are not alone. If you read my posts in this and UK's forums, you will find I am one of the first few people who got the B-pillar rattle fixed, and probably the first one who had to get it fixed twice.

With this and many other issues, my DS had been in the service for 40 days during my first 4 months of ownership. Even the date when JLR took my DS back, there were still other rattles.

Did JLR take the vehicle back as a buy back or lemon ?

It was a buy-back pursuant to Lemon Law, so I am not sure which term you were referring to.
Yes Lemon Law - we have that here in California.

Question:
Did JLR give you a very appealing deal to get you into another ?
Any extras thrown in ?
How about the costs - you versus JLR.

My one started to make some obvious ticking noise, and I believe this is the B-pillar ticking noise. The source seems to be something plastic. I thought it was related to rear seat belt buckles or something. Two questions.

1) Is the B-pillar noise ticking or rattling? I am not sure the recent noise from my car is the same one or not. FYI, I already fixed squeaking noise from tailgate and chirping noise from rear seats.
2) Is there anyone who fixed it perfectly? I saw a lot of posting from those who had to end up making multiple services.

It actually sounds like a ticking noise, which is caused by two pieces of metal rubbing each other. It could sound like a plastic hitting something.

I actually had it fixed at least four times, and twice of them was the real welding fixes. There are some people in the forum praised the great jobs their bodyshops did, but at end the rattle came back. I don't think there is a perfect fix yet.

Well, we have about 2000 miles on the DS and this noise has started for us too. It's a light ticking sound in the Driver's B Pillar. Almost sounds like if the window glass doesn't quite set right in older cars, seals are worn, and it makes a ticking sound over rough roads.....

So next week's service visit:

B pillar rattle
NAV SD card reader keeps giving errors
Bluetooth music streaming drops often
Rear Wiper gets stuck in the middle of window unless you turn it off at just the right time
Fuel gauge calibration

Hopefully most of that can be solved with updating software.

Mine is back in the shop for the second try at this. I now have the telegraph sounding ding ding ding da-ding ding going on in the B pillar, whereas prior to the round one welding fix it was more of a knocking sound. Still had rattles in the passenger C pillar when I got it back as well - they had found a broken clip in there during the first visit and thought replacing that would fix it. I've owned the car 8 weeks, it's been in the dealer for 3 of those so far.

During the few days I had the car back, I put on silver roof rails and it looks really nice with the dark blue paint and other silver accents (took about 25 mins to install and was VERY easy) - I'll take pics when it comes back home again.

oh no, picked mine up three weeks ago and now have the same issue, both B pillars are clicking/rattling. Mentioned that i had read about the issues online to the dealership and that this might be a bodyshop job, and i got a load of blank faces like they never heard of the issue.

Anyway, now booked in, in two weeks time but expect i'll be told it's a bigger job. Not too impressed with the aftersales service at this point.

My 16 plate UK spec DS went into the dealer today for a test drive with a technician to assess the "rattle" from the B post area.
he agreed that it was like chinese water torture and was shocked when i suggested the B post repair stated in this thread, but admitted that he had heard of it before.
this worried me so i printed off the details of the JLR repair, in russian, mentioned previously, now they are taking me seriously.
why hasn't JLR informed all of the owners of this and at least informed it's dealers, or are they hoping it will just go away?
as a company, we bought 8 this month, 3 have this issue and all are NOT in the chassis range that JLR state in the repair details - so they are reluctant to look at this as a cause - instead they want to take the panels off and lookmbehind the headlining first...
seems as though this will be a waste of my and their time!
has anyone any actual evidence of this repair being done on a chassis number outside of the JLR repair specification for this issue?

So I am disappointed. My rattle is still present in the B Pilar. It is the same ticking sound just not as loud.

A LR tech came to my dealership today and took a day to look at it. I was called back around lunch time to take a ride with them. I still heard the sound. I stopped the truck and let him drive it. He heard it and we went back. I left the car and got a call aabout 3 hours later stating that the LR tech determined the sound is within a tolerable range.

I picked up the truck and the sound was louder than when I left it. I am very disappointed. There are moments (sometimes long ones) where I don't hear it and make myself believe it has fixed itself. Then it comes back and is annoying.

I then called LR Customer Care. For 2hrs today I got nobody to answer the phone and when it dumped me to leave a message it statedno messages could be left and hung up. Not a good day for me and LR.

Maybe the sun will come up tomorrow.

My service rep did indicate some other customers have come in with the issue and it had been remedied. Why can't mine be fixed? I really don't know what to do next. This is way too much money for me to be disappointed. I coule have bought a "non luxury" brand for less money and would not be so upset. Were my expectations too high? I still love the drive and capabilities of the Disco Sport. Just need an earplug in my left ear to drive it.
