Tailgate not fully closing via button (makes beeping noise)

So I've got an issue with my Discovery Sport 2016. The problem is the tailgate gets 2/3 of the way down then starts beeping when you try to automatically close it. I'm just manually closing it as of now and when it opens it makes a clicking sound on either side. It also automatically opens fine but doesn't close automatically.

I've had a read of others with similar issues but no real solution that's worked. Trying to reset the tailgate close height by holding the button hasn't worked.

Is there anything I can do other than taking it for repairs? I don't mind doing that as a last resort but don't want to waste anybody's time if there's an easy solution.

Sounds like something might be messing with the sensor or the sensor for stopping is bad. I know if mine just taps something it will not close including my hand or something when it's coming down

No idea but could try putting silicone lube on the struts to make sure it's not just sticking.

Got a problem with the tailgate on my 2017 discovery sport.

The tailgate opened maybe 1/3 of the way and appeared to just stop so i have the dealership have a look and which they recommended the struts to be changed at a pricey £850. I changed these myself and the tailgate still carrying out its usual and only opening 1/3. So im still stuck in the same situation.

The automatic tailgate control box makes 3 beeps when it stops in the 1/3 position. So i can manually open to full height, once i try to close it by either the key, the button on the tailgate or the button on the dashboard, i still have these 3 beeps and it wont close at all.
I have replaced the tailgate control box and now i am able to open the tailgate fully ( thankfully). The only issue i have now, is that it will not close and still makes these 3 beeps everytime i try to close.

does anyone have any ideas or had this problem before? Are there any other sensors in the system that i am missing?

Thanks!!

There are no sensors I don't think, it would work on current sensing. There is a sensor module for the hands-free operation (foot under bumper). If the struts aren't at fault then the control unit may be faulty. There is a powered tailgate module which I presume is in the rear of the vehicle, but I'm unsure of exact location, may just be part of the latch assembly. It all seems to work from the CJB (central junction box). A code reader is needed really to check for faults. The Autel AP200 is great value.

I had the same problem. Try closing it manually, then while holding it shut, press the open button for several seconds. The let go and try the open button. Mine opened and beeped 3 times (which I think is the reset indicator), then worked OK.
Just a heads up, had to take the car in for a separate issue and the garage must have checked over the electronics. Whatever they did, whether it was a reset or what I'm not sure. It's worked ever since. So if this happens and you can't fix it might just need a little electric diagnostics check/restart.

That worked for me!
