Ordered a 2016.5 HSE Lux and am wondering about rust proofing. I have kept my last 2 vehicles around 10 yrs each and neither had any after market rust protection and neither had rust problems. I bought a BMW x series last year and everyone was telling me I should apply rust proofing. I didn't and now people are again telling me to do it right away when my disco arrives. Seems gimmicky to me. I don't see cars with rust problems like I did in the 80's. Is this protection still needed or is it and old school mentality? Let me know what you think.... I can be convinced :)

When I hear rust proofing I anyways think about that Seinfeld episode where he's getting the "inside deal" :)

I couldn't believe all the up charges the finance guy was trying to sell me on. I passed on everything.

New to this forum. Looking at a DS for my next vehicle.

While agree with not paying for the snake oil rust proofing offered by dealers, I have always invested the $109 to have my vehicles rust proofed by Krown or Corrosion Free. The product is more liquid when applied so it seeps into all the cracks and crevices inside your panels to provide a barrier against the crappy salt dumped on our Ontario roads in the winter. Have never had a rust issue and my underbody components look almost like new by year 5. I have mine done every couple of years and find that is sufficient. Never keep my cars more than 4-5 years anyways.

Are LRs prone to rust in salt belt country?
