UK 2016 plate 85k miles. Serviced by dealer at stated service intervals. At around 45k miles - running rough, cut out without warning etc. Dealer could find no problem and returned car working but running slightly 'rough'. At 55k miles happened again. Main dealer said problems were due to timing having slipped. Was out of warranty by this time. Reluctantly agreed to contribute 50% toward cost. 85k miles big bang, lots of smoke. Recovered to main dealer (not mine) in Chesterfield. Say it is blown turbocharger, but has drawn oil though engine and contaminated filer, cat, exhaust - total bill £7110.00 Their stance is - you've guessed it ' Sorry Sir, it's out of warranty'. If youud purchased our extended warranty when you bought the car you'd have been covered.

Is this 'normal' wear and tear on one of these? We've run a fleet of all types of Landrover products since 1993 - we currently have 6 in fleet - this is first Disco Sport - and will be last ever Landrover product we buy unless they address this.

I’m really sorry to hear about this. Wow, over 7 grand for the fix?? I had to look at that number a couple of times to make sure my eyes weren’t deceiving me. Since you’ve been a loyal Land Rover owner, do you think they would work with you to offset the cost in some way?

Landrover Discovery Sport (2016) came to a dramatic standstill yesterday with no warning signs until this point. Smoke coming out of exhaust. Called AA and got them to take it to Landrover dealer. They called today to say it’s the Turbo and would be minimum £3.7k to replace, and they can’t tell if the engine is also wrecked as a result and if so could be maximum of £17k. Any advice? Interestingly looks like there may be some pending lawsuits on this model in the US - does feel like it’s design or manufacture failure. We bought it new in 2016 and I was kind of hoping it would last more than 5 years….

Sounds like you have a Diesel engine and no such beasts where ever sold in North America in 2016. A Ford designed petrol engine was used.

Years ago my SAAB had it's turbo fail (petrol/gas) and continued to run poorly. Brought it to a company that worked on truck turbos and had it rebuilt. I think I paid about 1/5 the cost of a new one and it included labour for installation .

Seemingly a general problem. 25k on the clock and I'm in the same situation right now, lol. Range rover has lost it.

Our Turbo has also gone after the timing chain did - utter nightmare.

Yes, I am from the UK and my turbocharger failed on my 2016 Discovery Sport and my independent garage said that the engine chain was rattling and could be an issue. I had to replace the turbocharger and still have concerns about the engine chain from what I have been reading on these types of forums and what my independent garage stated the worst that could happen could be: total engine failure in a worst case scenario.

I am raising this with the approved dealer and land rover but they are not accepting full liability. I'll take this all the way.

We'd like to join you - where are you based? we are Guildford - ours is still a nightmare, exactly the same issue. I want them just to take it off our hands.

I have a 2016 diesel manual Disco Sport, bought as an ex-demo with about 800 miles on the clock with an extended warranty. The timing chain went (a week after a service, but as the timing chain is in a sealed unit - supposed to last the lifetime of the vehicle - it didn't detect any issues) in September 2019, and LR changed the engine FOC but wouldn't supply a courtesy car, and it took months. Fast forward 2.5 years and the Turbo charger blew last month. I replaced the turbo, but it's now apparent that the engine is shot away, so it's back at the dealers. Tried to claim again through LR. It's got full service history, having last been serviced two months ago, but they've only offered to pay 20% of the total, leaving an £11.2K bill for me to pay. There were no warning lights on the dash until the car went into limp mode, and told me to take it to the garage. I took it straight there, and on the way there, the orange engine light came on. At no point was there a red light, meaning to stop the car. This has to be a fault of the engine. I'm probably going to put a recon in, and sell, and get out of the LR system. KIA give a 7 year warranty, meaning both my engines would have been covered......

Just experienced a similar issue on 17 reg HSE Black with 49k on the clock. Restricted performance light came on last Monday. Left it on the drive until the Wednesday, then drove to my mechanic. DPF light came on en route (12 mile journey). He’s run diagnostics and it needs a new turbo (it’s seized), a DPF, oil pump, chains & return pipes and timing chain needs replacing. Over £4k in parts alone. Emailed LR, no response. Call center closed due to unforeseen circumstances. Mechanic (ex LR) reckons they are having huge issues as a result of this engine. Anyone had any success in claiming? I dare not have the work done until I receive a response from LR.
