Hi all. Thought I’d share my experience so far with you all. I bought my DS new in 2015. At the time, my wife and I were looking to upgrade our Ford Focus to something bigger that our fur kids (2 Labrador’s) could travel in and that we could take on camping/off road trips. We wanted something with a premium feel and features so after narrowing down the list we checked out the top of the range models in Hyundai Tucson (great warranty), Nissan Xtrail (good value), Ford Kuga/Escape (soft spot for the brand having previously worked for a Ford dealer for 10 years) and the mid range HSE 5 seat DS 2.2 turbo diesel with 9 speed auto. We felt the DS was the best looking car and had the best off road credentials however the price was considerably higher than the others. We decided on the DS because it felt more solid and premium, had much better off-road capabilities, great boot area/ capacity (with full size spare wheel) and overall style. The rear passenger space is also much better than the others. As the car had only just been released in Australia the stock was limited. However our local LR dealer managed to find us a car in our colour (Corris Grey) that we could take delivery of in 2 weeks but it had the black pack with 20 inch wheels. I wasn’t keen on the large wheels but the wife loved it so that’s what we got. It also already had optioned on it the panoramic glass roof, black hood lining, solar attenuating windscreen, heads up display, rear cross traffic alert. These were optional at the time.
The local dealer here has always looked after me with a loan car and hands my car back washed and vacuumed. Always had it serviced there too. I did buy the additional 2 year LR warranty just before the factory warranty ran out. This extended warranty has been worth it. I’ve had the EGR cooler and the touch screen panel replaced (in order to fix button illumination issue) under the extended warranty. Repairs would have cost me over $3,500! During the original factory warranty they replaced the gear box. Not sure why as it never broke down on us but apparently there were fault codes at some point that showed an issue with it so they replaced it. It’s now travelled 95,000kms and we still love it. Yes we’ve had some issues but we’ve never been stuck on the side of the road with nowhere to go. The local LR dealer has always offered us good service and a loan car so never inconvenienced. Recently the wiper washers stopped working. Of course it happens 2 months after the extended warranty expired! But LR customer service agreed to reduce the cost of this repair significantly as I was able to show evidence of on time regular services and warranty had only run out recently.
Overall I am happy with the ownership experience. We are looking at replacing it in 2 years. There is currently nothing on the market in my opinion that will fit our requirements quite like the DS. We don’t want a large SUV like LC Prado. I am keen on looking into the new Isuzu MUX when it comes out but I don’t think my wife will go for that as it will be her daily drive. The new DS is nice however I note that the ground clearance has been reduced compared to my model. Not sure why that is. Maybe due to the now standard mild hybrid system? We don’t do heavy off-roading when we go camping but we need something with better than average ground clearance. My current DS has been fine for this. I know there will be plenty of new models and updates in 2 years so hopefully something suitable is around then. Cheers!

No worries Bill. People usually come to forums for help when they have a problem. I get that. So you tend to hear a lot about the problems and not much of the good stuff. I really do like my DS and despite some of the issues I’ve had, I’d buy another one. However, I would advise anyone that is thinking of buying a DS (or any prestige brand really) to purchase an extended warranty if one is available. Eg I know that Mercedes Benz do not offer one. I see LR have continued to offer a 5 year factory warranty on the new Defender. Hopefully this will become standard on all LR vehicles soon. Also there is much value in having your car serviced at an authorised LR service centre. You don’t have to, but when something goes wrong outside of warranty and you need a bit of good will from LR, it goes a long way. Think about this. Just because no one ever does a write up about how happy they are with their car doesn’t mean there are people out there that aren’t. More of us should start doing this. Not just for your car but for everything thats good in your life. It would make the world a slightly better place to live 🙂

Good to hear - I've had a 2015 DS diesel since 2018, hasn't needed a single repair but has developed a rattle in the exaust system, probably a loose heat shield. I use a local land rover specialist because the dealers charge like a wounded bull. Only things I don't like are the turbo lag at roundabouts and the engine pinging in higher gears when the gearbox insists on dragging it up hills at 1700rpm.

Make sure your vehicle has the latest software update for the transmission. Check with the LR service guys. Another thing to try would be to perform a transmission program reset. There’s instructions on this forum about that. I agree about the initial lag at take off but I’ve learnt how to drive around the lag now.
