Hello all! I had a few questions that I was unable to find here, so hoping you can help!

I have a 2017 Discovery Sport SE that I have had for about a month now and have a few questions on. This is my first LR, so I am still trying to get adjusted to everything.

-The first issue I am having is with my voice command, I have my language selected as English (UK) as there is no option for English (US). When trying to use the voice command, I get an error stating my language is not supported. How can I use voice command?

-The second is, my media when using bluetooth just randomly stops displaying track information after so long, it will start stating the track is unknown etc, or will stick on the last song it recognized. Do I need to have an update done on the vehicle? If so, how would that be done?

-The third one, I saw a similar post on another site, but wanted to get your feedback. What is everyone's opinion on the maintenance plan? Is it worth getting or is it something the dealer just tries to sell you on?

Thank you all for any help or input!

Hello, Banny and welcome!

I'll give you my input:

First - not sure where you are located (US or elsewhere), but I am aware of the voice command option not working if anything other than US English is selected (here in the US) - know it affects GPS directions as well. I am surprised you don't have US English language as an option selection.
Second - I don't play much media through Bluetooth, but occasionally have the same issue with satellite. Find I have to switch channel and then go back to my original channel to "update". Kind of a pain. Not sure about failing to display track info. at all.
Third - I didn't opt for the maintenance plan. Saw that as a ploy for the dealer to extract more $$$. Figured major issues are covered under warranty, and I can have normal service (oil changes, etc.) done elsewhere (i.e. other specialists) for a lot less than JLR charges.

Hope that helps. I know there are many here that bring a lot to the table - so ask away!

I have a 15 DS. I’m in the US. Never had any issues with voice commands. Works like a champ.

I’ve also never had that issue during Bluetooth playback. Always works great.

I would say a trip to the dealership may be in order. Have them sort your issues.

One thing to remember with LR, if your dealership ever gives you the run around, call Land Rover US or UK and start a claim with them and they will follow through.

As for a service plan..if you mean an extended service/warranty plan? If you plan on keeping the vehicle past it’s factory warranty period, then I’d absolutely buy one. If not, pass on it.

FWIW, most recommend “services” at the dealership calls for some things that are not needed. If you tell them to JUST do an oil change then the price is not unreasonable. I prefer the piece of mind of having it done at the dealership just in case a warranty issue comes up that involves the engine. Plus they give you a loaner if they can’t do the oil change while you wait.

Good luck!

I have a 2017 DS HSE and I am in NJ...USA
I guess that you are in the US as well since you were actually looking for English (US) as a setting.... I would guess maybe your car wasn't set up properly but every car in the US should have that version....as commented by MG Larry - the nav doesn't work when set to English UK.....I have both options and I can confirm it on my vehicle.

AS for media functions...I've got to tell you....I have encountered bugs in my first two months of ownership as well and nothing that I could go to a dealer with.....simply a one- off "event" that are not reproducible....just happen randomly.

Thank you all very much. Yes the English US thing is very strange and I will call the dealer to get it worked out for sure. Sounds like an update may be needed.

As far as the maintenance plan for the yearly oil changes, I am still at an odds with. I want to be sure the vehicle is kept in the best shape, but don't want to get robbed in the process either. The plan that the dealership was offering was a 3 year plan for the yearly services for $930.00. That would include the oil changes, all filters needed and the rental car while the car is being serviced. I am just not sure if that is truly worth that.

Thank you all again for the warm welcome and the comments!
