Scored a CPO black Disco Sport with 3.2K miles on it . . . practically brand new. Having now had it for a few days, here are a few comments/observations.

- happy I ultimately got this vs. the other 2 cars on my shortlist (Q5, FX35). Where I am the Q5 is just way too popular, and the FX35 wasn't practical enough (and quite frankly too beastly of a ride!). Disco Sport -- image wise -- fits me perfect.
- replaced an old 2001 Lexus RX300, so right now I am overwhelemed by all of the DS's technology
- I have recurring SIM card read errors. This is giving me fits of consternation.
- I haven't figured out what I think is "Driver Exit". Sometimes I want to leave the car running when I exit (e.g. family is still in car while I'm running an errand, etc.). Thoughts?
- the uneven acceleration can be annoying. I sorta knew about this ahead of time (via reviews and test drive), but sometimes the car lurches forward (particularly when accelerating from a slow speed e.g. coming out of a toll). It doesn't bother me enough but admittedly it's noticeable.
- love love love the interior, everything about it
- saw this in other threads, but still haven't quite figured out what sort of audio system I have. I *believe* I have 11 speakers, which partially suggests that I have the $800 "Audio Upgrade" which has 11 speakers (one of which is a subwoofer). However I cannot find the subwoofer for the life of me. My speaker config is 1 center dash, 3 each on front doors, and 2 each on back doors. No subwoofer. Furthermore, no HD Radio or XM radio, which is supposedly part of the upgrade. Even the dealer doesn't seem to know; they still think I have the standard 10 speaker setup. The only way I could be off-base is if the center dash speaker is in fact NOT a speaker . . . woud love if someone could clue me in.

Thanks for reading. I'm sure I'll have more questions over the next several days.

Hey welcome to the club and great to hear about the new car! Please post some pics.

This might be of help (or not) is that most car manufacturers will have the speaker mesh in place, but no actual speaker. So just having the center speaker mesh in the dash does not mean you have the upgraded system. My car has the center dash speaker mesh too, but not the upgraded audio.

Interesting. That would make perfect sense then. The dealer would be correct all along in saying that I had the standard 10 speaker setup.

What I find annoying though is having a center speaker grill with no speaker underneath. Sorta misleading, no? Why not just cover it up with something else? Very puzzling to me . . .

I guess its more to do with cost saving, that way they can just order one dash piece for all their cars vs. figuring out how many will have upgraded stereos vs. ones that do not. I wouldn't pay too much attention to it... my aston martin has the same issue, standard audio with a fake center dash speaker mesh but no speaker :)

Also, I am still getting used to the driver exit function too. Kind of weird out by the car shutting off when I unbuckled my seat belt, I always walk away feeling uneasy that the car isn't really "off"

Welcome aboard!
As for the acceleration, I know what you mean about the lurching caused by the turbos kicking in late.

What you need to do is:
  • Turn off Eco
  • Rotate drive selector to "S" for sport mode
  • Gently increase RPM - don't mash the accelerator

By following above steps, you will find starting out from first gear (Sport mode) will result in a quicker off the line launch compared to the slower second gear start (Drive / Eco mode).:)

The turbo power comes from the exhaust system which means it needs a higher RPM in order to cycle the exhaust gases back into the engine. Turbo will not work at low / idle RPMs.....

For future reference, if you get a Supercharged engine or a dual supercharged + turbocharged engine you will find both off the line snappiness at low RPM/starting (supercharger) and higher speed/RPM boost (turbocharger) will get your head snapped back everytime you mash on the accelerator.>:D

I can see your point from a cost savings rationale, but figured a high-end car maker like Land Rover would be a bit more detailed-oriented and conscientious about something that I feel is borderline egregious. A center grille with no speaker underneath is cutting corners.

But since you say your Aston Martin has the same issue I will -- at this point forward and after taking a deep breath -- stop quibbling about it. Life's too short. :)

I have had 4 BMWs and all of them had the speaker grills in the center - 2 actually had a speaker, one did not, and one had the upgraded audio where the speaker pulls up and out of the center console dash to make the sound so awesome.
When you shut down, the speaker retracted into the dash - very cool.......
