Hi guys, great website with some good info so far. Been lurking and posting some already.

I just ordered my custom 2016 DS HSE today:

Loire blue with 19 inch black design w/ almond interior
Climate
3rd row
Audio upgrade
Driver's assist
Adaptive xenons

Should be coming in October. Very excited.

My current car is a leased 2013 GLK350 with minimal added features. My wife drives a loaded BMW X3 (28i). I like MB and BMW a lot, but this car makes the most sense for me and our growing family right now.

Welcome to the discussion! Sounds like a nice garage full of cars you have had for a while. The DS will make a nice new addition.

Congrats! Youll like this ride. With the smallish overall size, while still having all the room inside, its a great family car. We dont have the 3rd row (family of 3) but weve had 4 adults and 1 child loaded up in our Disco several times and its very accommodating.

Its not the fastest SUV in the world, but its not the slowest either and its fun to drive. Plus weve been getting very good fuel economy.

I hope it works out well for you guys.

That's what I have been noticing a lot of in these, families of 3 and even 4 which just goes to show how many see the soundness in the ideal of this as a family vehicle.

Have you guys done a road trip in it yet? That, I think would be the ultimate test for a family.

No long road trips yet. We have had it loaded down with cargo for a few short trips to see family. It works almost as well as our past, much larger, SUVS. We have a couple of long trips planned before summer is over though. With our experience so far, I cant imagine it being anything short of great.
welcome Petcha and congrats to you on making the decision. I can relate to you and give you some realistic comment because I have been a fan of BMWs and my wife has a loaded X3. but I think JLR has won me over now that I've had my DS for 4 months. I used to think Germany cars are the most solid in terms of the steel and how safe it makes you feel to be in them. But I now feel JLR by far has the strongest body. I typically can feel the difference by opening and closing doors on the cars. and when I drove my wife's X3 recently, I thought the door was light, lighter than my DS.

I also agree with Discodisco, given a compact SUV, this car is not only fast, it is roomy as well. roomier than my wife's X3 for both interior and cargo space although the X3 is actually a few inches longer! the interior is much more comfortable too. I love the sliding option for the 2nd row seats, it gives extra 6" of leg space if needed. I have not seen a compact SUV with the cargo space the DS has. I too have a family of 3 as of now. I can fit a stroller in there and still have room for other stuff. On top of all, it is also the most stylish compact SUV out there IMO. ok, you can see that I am happy with it by now..and I think you will be too.

Thanks for the comments guys. I was 95% sure that my next car would be a BMW, but one test drive of the DS totally changed my mind and another reaffirmed my decision.

You're affirming my initial impressions and test drives of the vehicle. The style and especially that black design pack look so good. But I was really impressed with the drive and handling, even going in knowing about all the negative press regarding the turbo lag (which isn't that bad at all).

Our x3 feels light on it's feet and the GLK feels very solid. The DS is a nice balance of the two.
What price did you pay for your car (Included Tax & Title License)? Thanks Petcha
I am looking to buy a DS same as yours too.
Best Regards,

Me too - I am a BMW fan and have been for over 15 years.

Now the new BMWs are very soft and disconnected (non M), and I have been turned off with the brand. Guess BMW is appealing to newcomers and those that want a soft, cushy, living room feeling car these days ?

I test drove other brands: Audi Q5 & SQ5, Mercedes MLE300, BMW X4, and Porsche Macan & Cayenne.

After 2 months of test drives: Land Rover DS came out on top - for the money you get a lot!:)

The ride has been super solid, grippy road feel, and a well mannered pothole management drive....

Can't wait to this up to the mountains for snow traction test....;)

Agreed, you get most options MB/BMW offer in a more practical package (interior space wise) and a slightly lower price point.

I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but with all the great climate features and snow driving setting, I'm actually (secretly) looking forward to winter.

Kevin,

My DS is a couple weeks from delivery (on the boat right now actually), so I haven't finalized the sale. My purchase price with delivery fee was a bit under 50k (can't remember exact number). MN tax + title will likely add around 3k to that

Got a surprise phone call on Friday that my car was in! Went in yesterday, finalized the deal and drove it home. Loving everything about it. The color combo looks better than I could have anticipated. It was fun being at the dealership since so many staff/customers were coming by and commenting on it. I even did one salesman's job for him by talking to a couple looking at it, explaining my choices, features etc.

The drive home was excellent. The car feels so solid, but moves really nice. I'll again say that I don't understand the complaints about acceleration/shifting. It was really smooth for me and it gets going fast. So happy that it all worked out. Now to play the game of what could possibly go wrong? Hah.

My salesman did say that LR has a bulletin out to fix the squeaking with the backseat if I happen to notice anything. He didn't mention any other issues that have been reported to him since he's been selling DSs
