We know Land Rover is going to release the fifth generation of Discovery later this year but according to a company insider, there may be other Discovery variants under development.
One such future variant could be designed for off-roading. Auto Car managed to get some inside news and according to them, Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division is working on a version with “extreme off-road capabilities”.
SVO is to Jaguar what AMG is to Mercedes-Benz and performance models produced by this division wears the SVR moniker while their more luxurious models bear and SV badge. We can expect future all-terrain models from them to have the SVX badge. With a separate division developing special versions catering to target audiences, the head company can concentrate on the base models and standard packages while a separate division works on a special version for them.
Following this naming scheme, the new off-road version of the Discovery will be called Discovery SVX and it is expected to hit the market one and a half year after the fifth gen Discovery is launched. The SVO division considers every nameplate from Land rover and Jaguar to see if they can push the boundaries in any direction.” We could potentially see a performance and luxury variant from them for the next gen Discovery since the SVO division is already working on an off road variant of it, a Discovery SVR and a Discovery SV respectively.
