Anyone notice a whirring / electrical noise coming from the drive train, that changes pitch and volume between reverse and drive?

I park at work at an underground car park, and tend to reverse with my window down so I can see how far away I am from the wall, and I hear this whirring noise that is the loudest when I am in R. It gets quieter in D, and goes away when I put it in park. Is this a drive train noise?

I have not heard anything like this before, but this is my first truck and experience with LR's all wheel drive system.

Thanks :)

I have and it seems most noticeable at highways speeds when the engine RPM's are low.

I described it as a gear noise and have taken it into the dealer for it, only to be told it was the tires.

I tried to explain to them that the noise did not change with the installation of winter tires, at which point I was told "we don't hear a noise"...

Hmmmm now I need to pay attention to it at highway speeds, I know its not tire related as that changes pitch / volume depending on speed, but this is a constant when I am inching backwards or forward.

It should be very noticeable specially indoors, it sounds like someone is under a car holding an electrical drill that is spinning at the same RPM as long as youre crawling. That's why I suspect it might be the AWD feature or something.

I have the same issue: a whirring sound that seems to come from the direction of the instrument panel. It is only noticeable at 50 mph or more and it is speed-sensitive. I am taking it in tomorrow to have them look into it. 2016 HSE Lux.

Any updates on the root cause? I think the noise in ours is getting louder.
Same here, I was moving houses yesterday and had to drive an hour in another state with the radio off because the usual stations I listen are out of range. I can hear the whirring.

and stzombie, that whirring when unlocking (you can replicate it in the DS by unlocking and opening the driver door) is the car priming the fuel pump etc

I do hear a whirring sound (almost like a fan noise or even hydraulics moving?) coming from the left rear passenger area: I believe it's the shock absorber or strut? I can NOT detect this sound while driving--it's only after a stop and park the car and I can hear it coming from the said area. (All other areas are OK.)

Any update on this anomaly?
