2 weeks ago, I brought my DS to the dealer to get the fuel gauge issue resolved. Was told it was fixed via software issue (fuel gauge calibration something or other . . )

Yesterday, I recently let the fuel tank go down to almost zero (distance to empty: 9 miles). I refueled and could only fill up to 16.7 gallons (before only let me goto 14.5 gallons). Since the fuel tank capacity is 18.5 gallons, I still think I have an issue . . . thoughts?

My dealer had to replace a control module + software update to fix the fuel gauge issue.

My dealer says that "the other 1.8 gallons is the other 9 miles you had until empty, which would make the total of 18.5 gallons"

I find it hard to believe I'm getting less than 4.5 mpg . . .(!)

That's correct - have not yet gone in to have it fixed. I plan to do so, however, in the next few weeks and also have them address the rattle in the back seat. Will report back after fuel gauge issue is addressed.
Same here will be doing that on the first service visit.

At least the OP was able to fit more fuel than mine - it still reads 14gals maximum.
Having about 1.5gals of reserve fuel is a good safety margin IMO>=.:)

I have the same fuel gauge issue. I would fill up the tank to the brim but my indicator on the dash would only be at less than 3/4ths. but my "km remaining" will stay the same. I now rely on my odometer...If I run more than 350km I think ill be on reserve.

Any thought on the consumption meter if the fuel gauge issue could make it look like im having bad consumption?

Had the gas tank calibration service done at my 20k mile service. Have run three tanks through the car since. At zero I now put in 17 gal. That leaves a 1.5 gal reserve (25-35 miles depending on driving conditions) which feels about right. Before the calibration zero was only 15 gal to fill - a 3.5 gal reserve was a bit much!

Okay, here's an update: Just had the software patch installed to address the fuel calibration issue. Per my previous post, I like others could only squeeze about 15 gallons in when my distance to empty was approaching zero.

Today - after the fix, my message center indicated I had approximately 23 miles to empty (about 1 gallon) when I stopped for fuel. I was able to put 16.5 gallons in to fill it. So, 16.5 gallons filled plus the approximate 1 gallon that I still had makes 17.5 gallons resulting in a reserve after the message center indicates empty of 1 gallon (18.5 gallon total capacity). I am happy with the fix.

Does my fuel gauge seem to be off?

When i go to fill up i at 0 till empty, I am able to put in 17.2gals. But my Distance to empty only reads about 300miles. If after driving bout 15miles the average MPG is ~21... 21*17.2 = 361.2 so im confused why the distance to empty is reading so low?

I am a sad owner of a Discovery sport too. My car has had supposed software issues of various sorts ever since I received this car. Navigation, remote, rattles and now this. The car indicates less than half full when you top up the gas. Been to the dealership too. Still the same. Honesty LR should stick to making military grade tough vehicles and leave the high tech stuff alone.

I am happy with my Discovery - JLR has addressed almost all the issues I have had since I got her 2 years ago...
My fuel gauge is now accurate thanks to the software calibration update.

Compared to a decade ago, JLR now is more attentive to consumer issues.

I know because I had an LR3 for a short period because JLR a decade ago would not take care of issues I had.

JLR is not as high tech refined as BMW which I have had for almost 20 years but they will get there - I know because BMW has come a long way...

I will stick with JLR when my DS lease expires next year....
Just hoping they come out with a better engine / tranny combo like the Jaguar F Pace in the DS.

We had similar problem with our 2016 DS. Finally the gas gauge stopped working all together. Dealer kept cDS for almost three weeks. We got it back and gauge is working but now we hear a loud sloshing sound coming from passenger side of DS. Anybody else have this problem? We are worried that mechanic forgot to put sound deadening when they reassembled DS.
