Hi all, I am new to this club and also a new owner of a 2nd hand Discovery HSE Luxury. I am concerned about the inability to turn off the stop /start function as i believe having this function operational will shorten the battery life. I have been told by the dealer that the stop / start function is deployed to help with fuel economy. Can somebody advice me on whether the battery does suffer due to the stop / start process?

No it does not, battery is extra capacity and if charge is low the start stop will not activate.

I press the button out of habit every time i start so it is turned off. I'd be more concerned about wear on the flywheel than the battery.

Stop start technology has been used for years on most car brands and every thing is enigineered to compensate. I have not heard of problems with any manufacturer.
