We finally have the next generation Land Rover Discovery on video!

Speculated to debut later this year, the camouflaged Discovery prototype was recorded while out testing. Even though it’s covered, we can still make out the body shape which is a bit more rounded compared to the Discovery Vision Concept revealed in 2014.

So that the new Discovery won’t steal sales from the Range Rover, Land Rover will most likely market it as a leisure vehicle that is both practical and luxurious. Maybe we’ll see a few new pieces of tech make their way into the cabin like a laser head-up display, large touch screen for the infotainment system or even the latest safety features.

Moving this seven seater could be Jaguar Land Rover’s new Ingenium diesel and petrol engines. The 2.0 litre Ingenium petrol engine will be launched in the Jaguar F-Type so maybe we could see a slightly detuned version in the Discovery.

It’s hard to speculate on the exact engine size since the Ingenium engine range is modular, which means JLR can more easily develop bigger and smaller versions. Maybe we’ll see their planned 1.5 litre 3-cylinder or 3.0 litre in-line six-cylinder unit in the engine bay. Maybe JLR will stick with 2.0 litre unit.

As the new Discovery unveiling approaches, we should hear more from Land Rover.
