2017 Land Rover Discovery Prototype Caught In Action

We finally have the next generation Land Rover Discovery on video!

Speculated to debut later this year, the camouflaged Discovery prototype was recorded while out testing. Even though it’s covered, we can still make out the body shape which is a bit more rounded compared to the Discovery Vision Concept revealed in 2014.

So that the new Discovery won’t steal sales from the Range Rover, Land Rover will most likely market it as a leisure vehicle that is both practical and luxurious. Maybe we’ll see a few new pieces of tech make their way into the cabin like a laser head-up display, large touch screen for the infotainment system or even the latest safety features.

Moving this seven seater could be Jaguar Land Rover’s new Ingenium diesel and petrol engines. The 2.0 litre Ingenium petrol engine will be launched in the Jaguar F-Type so maybe we could see a slightly detuned version in the Discovery.

It’s hard to speculate on the exact engine size since the Ingenium engine range is modular, which means JLR can more easily develop bigger and smaller versions. Maybe we’ll see their planned 1.5 litre 3-cylinder or 3.0 litre in-line six-cylinder unit in the engine bay. Maybe JLR will stick with 2.0 litre unit.

As the new Discovery unveiling approaches, we should hear more from Land Rover.

It looks too boxy, like the LR4. I'm glad I got the 2016 DS.

That's just the camo making it look boxy. It will be sleek yet tough looking, much like the DS. The design will be much like the Vision concept.
Should appeal to a much broader range of people than the LR3/4 did.

I'm still anxiously awaiting the Defender. :)
I think the Defender and Discovery LR5 will both be more car than off road worthy. I think LR just seems to make a lot more money many a luxury vehicle than a capable vehicle.

Isn't that their whole game though? Making luxury vehicles that are much more off road capable than other brands

Exactly, I would be scared to take my Disco anywhere....and do it in style and comfort.
I meant to say...I WOULDNT be scared to take my Disco anywhere.
What's up with the edit feature? LOL
What's going on with these forums. I feel like features were removed since I last came on here, like the edit thing gone. Why?

Also a LOT of Spam posts in the forum..

Yeah, for the industry, LR owners have the highest % of cars taken off road. But it is still low, something like 10%

Does the gravel in the grocery parking lot while under construction / repairs count? :D
This is another reason why Cadillac, Lexus, Infiniti, etc need to do something with their products that sit in a similar segment as this. it's the perfect response to the market, RR HSE cost too much for some, but this meets that perfect medium.
