2018 Range Rover Sport Adds Plug-in Hybrid Variant

The Range Rover Sport is now available as a plug-in hybrid, which happens to be the company’s first car capable of zero-emissions driving.

The British automaker has updated the entire 2018 Range Rover Sport lineup, giving the SUV a facelift featuring a new front bumper, an updated grille, and LED headlights. Inside the cabin, the SUV has been updated with a new infotainment system, which Jaguar Land Rover says is the most advanced system ever created by the company. It features a pair of high-definition, 10-inch touchscreens.

But the big news is the introduction of the company’s first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, the Range Rover Sport P400e. Powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor, it has a combined system output of 398 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque. The model offers an all-electric range of 31 miles (51 kilometers) and marks the first time Land Rover customers can experience zero-emissions driving. According to Land Rover, the plug-in hybrid goes zero to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds (zero to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds) and has a top speed of 137 mph (220 km/h).

The plug-in hybrid Range Rover Sport won’t arrive until summer 2018, however, as a 2019 model year vehicle. Expect pricing for the Range Rover Sport P400e to be announced closer to its launch.

Interesting. Wonder how much cargo space will suffer. Also wonder if they will make a PHEV variant of the current DS or whether they will wait for the redesign.
